DEAD BEAT RECORDS (USA)HEARTBEEPS- My Bones Are Tattooed LP
-Theirs no denying the impact that Bordeaux's TV KILLERS had on the international underground garage punk scene. They began in 1992 long before the hey day of the mid to late 90's garage punk boom; and saw it through to it's perpetual demise. Out of the ashes of the TV KILLERS come HEARTBEEPS who quickly re-ignite the flame that their raggedly, rockin band once had. TV KILLERS fans will rejoince in the fact that not much has changed with time. The basic TV KILLERS blue print is still intact. An adrenaline charged, dual guitar, smash n crash where steam roller riffs drill through frantic garage based punk tunes. Raw primitive Rock 'n' Roll that tips it's cap to The Real Kids, Saints, DMZ, Pagans and the Zeros. Hell ya.
SHAKIN RECORDS (USA)
NASA SPACE UNIVERSE-S/T 7"
-I love music that sounds like its makers only have a loose grip on sanity. “Ravenous slime scratches out contorted portraits/Expressions swirling dripping fading and amorphous.” That’s one of the more sensible lyrics the singer spits out in his throaty sneer. All the while, the guitar player isn’t so much playing guitar as he is sonically flagellating the rest of the music. I wouldn’t be surprised if the drummer and the bass player where drooling and bleeding from their ears when they recorded this. Spacey electronic squiggles and the zonked-out lyrics and artwork definitely give them some character. Nice looking drawn sleeve art and cryptic insert-collage and lack of any song title information anywhere puts one foot squarely in the elusicity of this very creative new LA band. Definately keep an eye on these guys. 7” LIMITED TO 500 COPIES!!
BAG OF HAMMERS (USA)

Bassholes Problems 7"
Monoshock- Model Citizen(Nitroglycerin)7"
Fells- I Don't Need You+ 7"
Screamin' Mee Mee's- Home Movies 7" (posthumous 1978 recordings, was to be 2nd 45)

Solger- Live at The Wrex 7"
VELOCITY OF SOUND (USA)Eohippus- Live Life On Opium 7”
-Imagine the smelly kid who spent seventh grade with his hand down his pants, saved his boogers in a jar and told girls in a deadly serious tone that he was going to get them pregnant. Now imagine three of those kids in a band. That’s Eohippus who come farting and ejaculating on the scene with this homemade masterpiece of tastelessness. Bands like the Spits, Sockeye, Live Fast Die and Nobunny got nothing on Eohippus when it comes to the most idiotic music ever created. Songs like ‘Live Life On Opium’ and ‘Burn To Burn’ should give you an idea of where these guys are coming from. RELEASED BY THE BAND IN AND EDITION OF 500 COPIES INCLUDING SOME WIERD ODBALL SIGNATURE FOR CONFIRMATION IN CASE ANYONE TRIES TO BOOT THIS THING. HA HA!!
Eohippus/Lonely Planet Boy- Split 7”
-There's a very thin line between inspired dementia and stupid crap and Tardcore derelicts Eohippus finely straddle the line. On this split they give us a and raw dunderheaded piss take on rock revealing a warped tunefulness rendered more effective by luring the listener into humming the chorus of ‘Bisquick in Bakersfield’, whatever the hell that means! On the flip you get Lonely Planet Boy who go for a sad downer folky rock gem called ‘Pets’. Notably more serious than Eohippus, making for a really odd pairing for a split. 7” LIMITED TO 500 HAND NUMB
TANKCRIMES (USA)Deadfall- Keep Tellin Yourself It’s Okay 7”
-Once again the mad Bay Area thrashers dish out sick hardcore jams tackling G.W., Skatin’, numbers and time. 6 tracks influenced by the oldies ala Minor Threat and JFA, but also by the current underground DIY hardcore scene and bands around them at Burnt Ramen and Gilman St. These are tunes for the counter clockwise dance floor, counter culture hardcore.
JEEK TUNE RECORDS (Italy)Black Mamba Beat - S/T LP
-12 track debut vinyl LP from London's Black Mamba Beat. Righteous Minutemen inspired acid punk that goes the distance! Features members of Black Time and Wake Up Dead. The Black Mamba Beat side of this is totally killer UK-DIY-ish shuffling stuff, perhaps the offspring of some C86 band and Gang Of Four or early Yummy Fur with just a dash of Medway garage. 12 cuts with nary a bummer, standouts being "Bread And Blood" and it's hard-n-Krauty robotic rhythm and fall apart bridge, "Tighten The Circle" moody and soulful beat and chanted vox, "Indigo Skate Camp" which predates Wavves' ideas and does so with a lot more heart. Just really clever overall, the slighty nervous vocals are great compliment to the scratchy guitars and I think the bass playing is totally top notch and really elevates the band and songs to another level. Crazy, twisted, noisy art punk that really works. LP LIMITED TO 300 COPIES!!
Margaret Doll Rods- Sintilatin LP
-The legendary founder and leader of the always rockin , sometimes nudist garage band the Demolition Doll Rods releases her second solo record of intimate bluesey, garage nuggets. Sweet, deep, romantic and still tough as nails, Margaret really shines on this record. Keep rockin Margaret!!! LP LIMITED TO 300 COPIES!!
Murder By Guitar - S/T LP
-Murder By Guitar are the most recent project by Martin Savage, also responsible for such legendary acts as The Blacks, Humans, Locomotions, Dixie Buzzards and ¾ of what happened in the Swedish rock n roll scene in the last decade. This is a pure assault of arty garage punk rock with dark melodies and twisted hooks. For fans of Lost Sounds, Reatards, Wire, Buzzocks and Black Lips loaded with attitude and personality. LP LIMITED TO 300 COPES!!
Motorama- Psychotronic Is The Beat LP
-2nd full length and packs 12 booze filled tracks of guitar heavy squaller from two ladies who aint too rough on the eyes. Imagine Kim Deal fronting the Oblivians and churning out riff after riff of raw primitive garage rock. The mid fi production really brings out the filthy, nasty guitar scuzz which has always been an essential part of MOTORAMAs sound since the band began. Musically the songs owe as much to early Jon Spencer as they do to the Gories, Bikini Kill, Red Aunts or the Headcoatees and show that MOTORAMA can definitely write grade A rock n roll tunes like the best of em. Long time MOTORAMA fans wont be disappointed. Newbies into stuff like Mika Miko, the Intellectuals, the Husbands, Headcoatees, Billy Chilidish or the Demolition Doll Rods will definitely dig. LP LIMITED TO 300 COPIES!!
STANKHOUSE RECORDS (USA)
Effects Precede Causes- Dawn of Day LP
-Effects Precede Causes is a Portland based band. They're relatively new, so there is little info on them, but I do believe that the band is made up of various band members from various D.I.Y. folk bands from that area. The sound of the LP produced from that mess is a bit hard to pin down. No one is doing music quite like these guys. It's a weird mix of current and old style folk along with a little bit of a '40s and '50s pop in there as well. There's also no scruffiness to the sound either. The sound is very clean and the lead singer must have been in some singing classes growing up. The songs tend to follow a formula of a constant rhythm and melody with an instrument popping in for a few seconds to add a quick touch to the song. Opener "Come On" is great in its simple mantra of doing everything capsuled in the song's jangly piano and sweet vocals. The record dives into two slower jams with "You Picked A Fine Day To Say" a cry about losing a love that has a great 60's wilting guitar line. The Dawn of the Day winds up being just as different as everything Stankhouse has put out before, but for totally different reasons. The LP is both very familiar, but quirky at the same time. If you see it in a record shop, it wouldn't be a bad buy to add to your collection. LP LIMITED TO 500 COPIES AND WE HAVE A FEW ON THE LIMITED RED WAX!!
Splinter Cake/Foot Ox- Split 7”
-On this fine new piece of wax, Splinter Cake and Foot Ox offer up three songs a-piece, and it is some of their catchiest and most memorable material to date. Splinter Cake offers three, full band, pop ballads in which he is aided by female vocals. These songs are catchy and very well crafted, showing off his knack for constantly experimenting new musical territories. Foot Ox also offers up two, full band anthems that are un-deniably cathcy in his own quirky style. The two songs are bridged together by a beautiful ballad composed of mostly cello and vocals, and the record is lead to an end by a slowly dying tape loop. This record is packed to the brim and is completely golden from start to finish. Limited pressing of 540 records (430 on black vinyl and 110 on yellow vinyl) that are housed in bright orange covers with artwork by Teague Cullen printed in red ink.
Oh Sees/Paul Cary- Split 7”: Import Price
-New from Thee Oh Sees - in the running with Dan Melchior for most releases in 2009... and most GOOD releases, too! They do an Iran (?) cover - very pretty slow-mo moves, and a Trio cover - "Coma" - which takes the near-heavy metal original and sprays it with SF Faerie Dust to make it totally OhSeesariffic! NICE! The emptiness remains. The other side features Paul Cary, ex-Horrors (the good Horrors). Mr Cary provides some accoustic atmospheric stuff that's not embarrassing. Greg Cartwright produced something for the Horrors and I think something rubbed off on 'em in a good way. And "Goner" has trombone. Could that be Golden Boys Nathan? I love Nathan! I don't think it's Nathan. Still pretty good trombone! My boy Mal Sharpe plays trombone, too. I love Mal Sharpe! Is this a pattern? The other song, "Coyote" sounds kinda like Thin White Rope in a cave. Or something!
DMV- S/T 7”
-Like many fellow Portland transplants, DMV is grounded in nomadic tendencies: It shifts and changes as it draws from a number of musical places, including New York, L.A. and Olympia. The results take form in catchy , erratic post punk drones with poppy undertones. Cool new band that I’ve never heard befre and the hand screaned sleaves look pretty sweet too.
Here Comes A Big Black Cloud/Tiny Knives- Split 7”
-Their jokey band name didn’t prepare me for the genuinely weird sounds that came off of the Hear Comes A Big Black Cloud side of this split: A mix of ultra-fuzzy garage rock with punk tendrils, spooky Halloween organs, and, to further confuse you, an absolutely savage tune with an original arrangement. The vocals are gritty as hell, but fitting. I’d truly like to see this band live. I bet it be a unique experience. On the flip you get the Tiny Knives who give us a nice mix of rauchous female oriented post punk. Reminded me of the hey day of Kill Rocks stars. ThinkSleater Kinney, Bikini Kill, Huggy Bear etc. with a dash of Patti Smith, Television in the mix. 7” LIMITED TO 500 COPIES WITH A SNAZZY LOOKIN SPRAY PAINTED TOUCH!!
Popitilopitilus- Huh? 7"
-Wild and chaotic punk rock that's also quite quirky. It feels like a gigantic cacophony of noise but it's actually played well and tightly. Each song has a number of different parts, and each part has a number of different singers. It's grating on my psyche and leads me to consider this the WHITEHOUSE of punk rock. Super weird song titles: "Dicky Winter", "Clicky Jew Beard", "Spermacetti", "Space Cheetah", and "Crying Space Cheetah". Sheeeeeesh. Witches and warlocks play in this band, I know it. Overall, it's played well and pretty pretty damn impressive for a debut. It's like Big Bird on an eight-hit acid trip or what would be playing in the background as Ronald McDonald slowly slices your throat. Fuck.
Don Hellions- Unrequited Like 7"
-It's been years since I've tortured a defenseless, undersized piece of vinyl with the same remorseless vigor I have the new Unrequited Like seven-inch by Don Hellions, subjecting it to relentless turntable rotations that will inevitably wear out its fragile little grooves. Don Hellions are Portland's princes of lo fi spazz rock, a comet spinning out of excited desperation propelled by songwriter Chris Hoganson great writing abilities. Lucky for listeners, the title track is a spazzy gem of total pop destruction and isn’t a letdown from the heights of its overt loveless title. That tune alone will definately suck you in and leave this little sevvy in the front of your 45 pile for than a few weeks.
Carrie Nations- S/T 7"
- To say that Carrie Nations blurred the lines between pop punk and punk rock is quite an understatement. Carrie Nations beat the hell out of those lines and topped off the brutality with one of the most energetic live shows you could ever hope to see. This single will always have a special place in my top ten and will be filed under "perfect pop laced punk record" for years to come. The band contains ex members of Hot New Mexicans and American Cheesburger. 7” IS HAND NUMBERED OUT OF 500 COPIES!!
REFUSE RECORDS (Poland)
Go! - Your Power Means Nothing 7”
-In a nutshell, GO! was a New York Hardcore band around from 1989-1991. This is their first and classic single from 1990! GO! was about an awful lot, but they were so fucking sarcastic that it made it all alright. Pro-Gay and Lesbian; Feminist and anti-Sexism; anti-Racism and Violence. Yup. No apologies. And songs about Power and Civilization and Society, etc. Pretty serious stuff. Well yeah, but then we also have "Milk does your body good" and "Mom" and so on and there you have it. Life is balance. If you're into Gorilla Biscuits, MDC, Negative Approach and stuff like that try it out. Great Hardcore from NY with well thought-out lyrics - no neanderthal crap here. REISSUE WAS LIMITED TO 500 COPIES AND IS PRETTY HARD TO FIND!
MASS PRODUCTIONS (France)
Attentat Sonore- Stockholm Syndrome CD
-Fantastic new release from this fantastic French DIY punk band. Intelligent and powerful with duel male / female vocal duties - this band has always packed a real punch and continue to rip things up with real passion and urgency. Always positive and sharp, ATTENTAT SONORE have stayed true to their DIY punk roots for over 2 decades and continue to impress with every release. This is band to keep close to you and if you are unaware of them, you need to get on it…fast. Fantastic fast punk with an old school hardcore edg. Great packaging on this CD too. The CD includes 13 tracks inclduing 8 brand new cuts along with remixed versions of the songs from their ‘Barricades 1905’ 7” from a few years ago as well as a couple of bonus unreleased songs. Definitely one to get a hold of. Excellent.
MAMMOTH CAVE RECORDS (Canada)
The Famines- Syllables 7”
-The Wolfnote's 2006 break-up sucked. Featuring the band's former drummer, Gareth Heath Kruger, and ex-Vertical Struts guitarist and vocalist Raymond E. Biesinger, the Famines are a different beast all together, but clearly cut from the same aggressive, avant-punk cloth. Syllables, their thrid single inhabits a unique hybrid of vintage garage, punk and noise that is unpretentious but not straightforward. As a duo, they've perfected quiet-loud dynamics in order to maximize the diversity of their instruments. There's a cool bleakness to each of these songs that couldn't come from anywhere else but Edmonton. I’ve seen them whip audiences into bloodthirsty, near-riotous frenzy on more than one occasion. For those of you who’ve borne witness to the Famines ferocious live show, this recording you’ve been waiting for. 7” LIMITED TO 500 COPIES ON BLACK VINYL!!
Moby Dicks- S/T CD
-Another brilliance piece of post-existence garage-punk from Lethbridge, Alberta, released on the soon-to-be-legendary Mammoth Cave Recordings. The Moby Dicks’ is liquor-store garage-punk-revival filtered through ashtrays and pissy stair-wells; it’s puzzling, adventurous and full of Paul’s weirdly flavored recording MSG. Who is Paul? On top of being the leading member of now-defunct Endangered Ape and producer for about-to-blow-up Myelin Sheaths, Paul is the cold glue keeping Lethbridge a veritable force in Canada’s what-the-hell-is-this? landscape. Paul’s recording techniques are paramount in separating The Moby Dicks’ debut form derivative garage-punk schlock. Through the Mammoth Cave studios the songs transcend their late-60s roots and firmly entrench themselves in the whirlwind of hell that is the modern Terminal Boredom palette. THIS IS THE TOUR EDITION OF THE CD AND LIMITED TO ONLY 100 COPIES!!
V/A- Bloodstains Across Alberta 7”
-Mammother Cave asked 10 of their favourite Alberta bands to write a 1 minute song loosely about their home province and here are the results. I daresay it came out way better than one would think. Seriously, this record rules pretty hard, with every band turning in short blasts of amazement. Featuring: Topless Mongos, Myelin Sheaths, Tension Slips, The Moby Dicks, Grown-Ups, Famines, Fist City, Radians, The Throwaways and Outdoor Miners, check in on what Alberta is up to these days. 7” LIMITED TO 300 ON BLACK WAX!!
Moby Dicks- Ballad Of The Red Dog 7"
-Lethbridge lo-fi punk trio The Moby Dicks, which contain members of both Myelin Sheaths (Hazac) and Endangered Ape, have loaded their latest 7" release with a wealth of Canadian flavour. They play young, loud and snotty garage punk that should get fans of the Oblivians and early Dirtbombs all jazzed. Both lead-off tracks for each side, "Ballad of the Red Dog" and "Mike Molloy" have roots in their own windy city. The Red Dog Diner, well known by those familiar with the city, is a francophone haunt that serves hot dogs to many an intoxicated patron. Toss in a quick track making no bones about feelings for a girl and a Hubble Bubble cover song with their lyrics replaced with those about a mythical Canadian lake dweller, and you have a lo-fi, DIY punk romp that does what lo-fi, DIY punk romp should do: it buzzes, stomps, shouts and leaves you wishing there were more. 7” LIMITED TO 300 COPIES!!
Sharp Ends- Crack Trap 7"
-Alberta has been unearthing gem after gem of exciting new post-punk outfits recently, and Sharp Ends were the "gateway drug" into that inner circle. With an icy Tubeway Army/Joy Division/Crisis vibe that blackens the circles under your eyeballs and causes your pores to contract with its clammy, cold-wave simplicity. If alluringly dark pop piques your interest, don't pass up on this killer single. Debut single was on Hozac, full length coming soon on Kill Shaman. 7” WAS LIMITED TO 300 COPIES!!
V/A- Pizza Records Party Pack 7"
-Representing the best that Calgary, Alberta had to offer circa Summer 2008. Every single band on this comp is broken up (though everyone is in new-and-improved bands - The Funfuns are now part of The Dream Dates (look for a new Mammoth Cave Recording Co. 7" in 2010! SO GOOD!); Thee Thems are part of Dream Dates and Sub-Linguals; Hazard Lights (who have the best song on this comp - She Moves me, truly excellent 70's Glam/Power-Pop and deserving of its own single) are working to put something together; The Ostrich is now living as Sharp Ends. As this comp stands, every song is a winner and is essential for people newly discovering the underground Calgary garage-punk scene. 7” WAS LIMITED TO 500 COPIES AND COMES WITH A NAKPIN. TASTY!
Myelin Sheaths- S/T CD
-Following their debut 7” released via the HoZac Records Hookup Klub, Lethbridge’s Myelin Sheaths are back with another Bunsen-burnt eight-song platter. As each song contained within offers up a thundering blast of icy guitars and pulse-pounding rhythms, each more intense than the last, Myelin Sheaths have found a perfect platform to desecrate the chill and melt the frozen wilderness around them. The endlessly reverberated dual male/female vocals blend together on "Your Acid Is To Basic" so well that you can feel the sky open up and suck you straight into heaven, as it washes away the troubles clouding your weary consciousness. Recommended if you like: Shop Assistants, Blank Dogs, Jesus & Mary Chain, Dum Dum Girls, Primitives etc. CD was limited to 100 HAND NUMBERED COPIES! 1 PER ORDER!!
CREW FOR LIFE (Japan)
Crucial Section- Against The Wind 7"
-Damn fine ep from these Japanese Thrashers. The long awaited follow up from Tokyo, Japan's own Crucial Section. Crucial Section continue what they are known for, manic but melodic high energy old school thrash that sounds like "Defiance of Power" era Ripcord. Positive lyrics, tons of flannels, and no bullshitpunk rock! A nice fat production makes this ep just shred. I much prefer this over their full length from a few years back. This 7” is already out of print, but their’s already a CDEP version on the way!! 7” WAS LIMITED TO 500 COPIES!!
Agathocles/Gorgonized Dorks- Split 7"
-Belgium's legendary AGATHOCLES have been around since the late 1980's and this time around they blast out 4 tracks of patented MINCE CORE, true to their mid 90's style. Southern California's Noise Core weirdos GORGONIZED DORKS (who get their name from an AGATHOCLES song) this time attack with 5 hardcore raw punk tracks with lyrics about war and the crumbling society in which we live in. This record is strictly limited to 1000 copies, so get it now or search ebay later!
KANGAROO RECORSD (Australia)
The Inmates- Now We’re Talkin Hardcore 7"
-Obnoxious, fast HC from Cleveland in the vein of Agnostic Front / Negative Approach / Chaos UK featuring Aaron Melnick from Integrity, as well as members of Cider, H-100s, Keelhaul and 9 Shocks Terror. 6 new rippers from those wasteoid shitheads. If you liked their 12" from a few years back, you'll dig this one as well. It’s so good. Raw to the bone, drunk as fuck Hardcore the way we love it!
DESPOTIC RECORDS(USA)
Disclose/Scarred For Life- Split 7”
-Two bands, from opposites sides of the Pacific, are keeping the spirit if classic "Noise not music" DISCHARGE-type hardcore alive and kicking Three songs of total d-beat massacre by Tokyo's DISCLOSE, whose sound is more like EP years DISCHARGE, are totally complemented by LA's SCARRED FOR LIFE, who play in more of a "Hear Nothing, See Nothing, Say Nothing" style. Some of the best songs released by either band. 7” LIMITED TO 500 COPIES!!
VINYL ADDICT (Canada)
Vicious Cycle- I’m Watching 7”
-Amazing 2nd EP by this young band from Sudbury, ON. Combining the guitar driven fury of Poison Idea and Motorhead with the intensity & fury of Agnostic Front and their contemporaries in Violent Minds, the band delivers 6 new tracks of killer yet catchy hardcore punk.
RADIO 81 (Canada)
Vicious Cycle- S/T 7”
-Debut seven inch from Sudbury Ontario snotty kids VICIOUS CYCLE. 7 tracks of old fashion hardcore punk ala NEGATIVE APPROACH, POISON IDEA and early AGNOSTIC FRONT mixed up with a taste of the ZERO BOYS. Another band that proves that Canadian hardcore can stand proud amongst the different DIY scenes found around the world. Following in the footsteps of their big brothers CAREER SUICIDE, FUCKED UP, TERMINAL STATES and Vicious Cycle totally hold their own!!!

Contaminators-S/T LP

FLAT BLACK RECORDS (USA)
Cat Party- Heartache Over Headache 7"
-Cat Party play cool, atmospheric new wave that sounds like it could have come from the early 80s. While I hear the influence of Joy Division in the melodic bass playing and the semi-cold production, there's an energy and poppiness here that really makes it sound original. 7” LIMITED TO 500 COPIES!!
Tippers Gore / Makabert Fynd - Split 7"
-The new split featuring the posthumous release of the now defunct Tipper's Gore. The last recording from the band, recorded over a year ago, displays a different sound the band was experimenting with before their demise. Most of the songs are midtempo with vocals and tempos reminiscent of Canada's Subhumans and a jangly guitar sound reflective of a lot of the Swedish bands such as Tristess or Regulations. Makabert Fynd bring forth four more grueling monsters of Swedish hardcore with that heavy D-Beat/Crust edge to it. Here Makabert Fynd experiment with all kinds of tempos and showcase their brutality with the dual vocal attack of Mattis and ex-Totalitar frontman Poffen. 7” LIMITED TO 300 COPIES!!
Dogends - Pure Hate 7”
-These Ventura/Oxnard skate punks are back in your face with their sophomore release "Pure Hate". This is great skate thrash that doesn't get bland due to their execution of varying tempos and smooth transitions that keep you on your toes. With the subject matter still being light and humorous this is a record that will get you pissed and make you laugh all at once. Take their Nardcore roots and mix that in with great skate thrash like ETA with the humor of Tesco Vee and you got yourself some Pure Hate.
The Canonmen - Black Hole 7”
- These fine young gentlemen burst out of the lovely region known as the South in the sweltering state of Tennessee. Featuring members of Life Trap, this band plays a brand of catchy yet snotty punk rock thats hard to compare to any one band. Think early so cal punk rock, equal parts SST, Posh Boy and Frontier but with more of an edge with a nod to Texas bands like Really Red and The Dicks. Scorching instruments and refreshing unique vocals; catchy tunes with an attitude.
Knives- 5 song Demo - cd
-Featuring ex-members of Tipper’s Gore and Neon Maniacs. This band’s sound is somewhere between those two bands, playing a style of punk rock with a very So Cal sound circa 78-80. Take the dark Orange County bands like TSOL, Shattered Faith, and the darker guitar work of Rikk Agnew, mix that with some early Bad Religion and Black Flag and you have an idea of what this band sounds like. Mid tempo So Cal punk rock that is melodic and catchy but still has an edgeto it.
Cat Party- S/T - LP/CD
-Cat Party’s first full length comes to us after an impressive debut ep and split 7” and displays a sound that reflects the gloomy hypnotism of bands like The Wipers or Joy Division. This also has some great guitar work that not only resonates with a Greg Sage influence but hints of early Christian Death can be found in the guitar playing. The vocals have that classically cool vibe of greats like Rik L. Rik with a solid rhythm section holding it all together and giving the tunes a nice backbeat. Whatever tags you want to put on it; post punk, new wave, punk, it doesn’t matter, they seamlessly bring together some of the best elements in music and bring a sound that is Cat Party. LP and CD differ a little bit in the track listing so check out both. LP LIMITED TO 500 COPIES!!
C.O.P.- Deadicated Cop 7”
-Like most young hardcore bands of today, C.O.P.’s sophomore release shows us a faster, more intense and musically complicated band that has gotten better with time. The lyrics have matured and they have shed the catchiness of the first ep to bring a brutal slab of so cal hardcore. Take the nardcore sound of their first ep and the rapid-fire precision of Poison Idea’s “Pick Your King” and you have the new C.O.P. 7”. Although the songs are faster, tighter, and angrier each song stands out, definitely not another hardcore record that sounds like one long song. The best stuff yet from one of Southern California’s best hardcore bands.
Gross Negligence- Skate The Apocalypse 7"
-On Skate The Apocalypse these So. Cal. rippers give us six good skate-punk songs in less than eight minutes. If you have open wounds on your arms and legs, occasionally evacuate on the hoods of squad cars and view dark alleys as a ripe place for commerce, Gross Negligence are for you. This makes me think of an even more pised off Code Of Honor, even though their are tons of different influences in their music. It also has some elements to it that harken back to the early days of ANS. Well played skate core from the best San Diego band since Battalion Of Saints. RECCOMENDED 7” LIMITED TO 500 COPIES!!
Makabert Fynd- S/T 7"
-This one comes out of left field a bit for Flat Black. While the label is known for releasing youthful, energetic hardcore from southern California, this is a heavy-as-fuck face-ripper from Sweden that is very much working within the tradition of that country's great history of heavy crust (Anti-Cimex, Avskum, Skitkids, etc.). If you're the kind of person who hunts down obscure Japanese hardcore records, this 7" is for you... recommended! 7” LIMITED TO 500 COPIES!!
Crucial Cause- Blood Money 7"
-This thrashcore band comes back with another ep full of seething NY via Japan inspired hardcore. A blistering, balls-out sonic attack of their trademark bastardization of frantic DIY Japanese/mid 80’s NYC-influenced hardcore mixed with heavy, sludgy, bombastic MOTORHEADish bass salvos and some startling, iconoclastic guitar riffing. With a new guitar player in the band we see an even faster band with a slight metallic edge to the guitar work. Another great release from a great band. 7” LIMITED TO 500 COPIES!!
Bad Antics- The Wave 7”
-New EP by this band who is from Fullerton, California and actually sounds like it. Think Adolescents , JFA and DI to the max. You know their debut on Sorry State. And impressively as it is, this ones even better. LIMITED TO 500 COPIES!!!!
Bad Man- Neighborhood Watch LP
-New-ish band from california that spits out this raging LP full of ultra fast and tight thrashy punk killers. This band brings to mind ILL REPUTE, DRI and DEEP WOUND. It's that extra fast style that takes it to the next level and isn't just trying to sound like every one else. Side A is killer studio tracks, Side 2 is rip roaring raw demo tracks. If you like DLA, imagine them on 45 and get this! It rules
ANS - SUCCESS AT LAST CD
-Early material from this Texas skate rock band. Taking cues from Black Flag and JFA, this is the beginning of ANS, when they were known as Defaced. Great songs about skateboarding and contemporary issues from one of the best hardcore bands of today.
BAD REACTION - HAD IT COMING CD
-Faster and tighter than ever before, Bad Reaction compile their two most recent vinyl releases on one CD. Building upon their Zero Boys style sound, you hear a more fierce Bad Reaction but still with great songwriting and solid musicianship to give you their best material yet. Mix Zero Boys, the bass work of the Descendents and the speed of Uniform Choice and you will have a good idea of what this sounds like.
BAD REACTION - SYMPTOMS OF YOUTH CD
-Catchy debut LP from this LA band. This makes you think of those great bands of yesteryear who could play fast interesting hardcore but with melody mixed in with all the agression. If you like Zero Boys or bands in that vein, you’ll love this.
Imposters- S/T CD
-Youthful punk from San Pedro, CA reminscent of bands like the Adolescents or the Faction.
Tippers Gore- Unsettling Loss 7"
- Newest release from this Orange County Hardcore band and quite possibly their best record yet. Another installment of anger and frustration over fast, jumpy hardcore but with a catchy feel reminiscent of their earlier material. For those unfamiliar with their sound think DC Hardcore meets Nardcore. Awesome Pushead style cover art and LIMITED TO 300 COPIES!!
Social Sickness- S/T 7”
- Straight ahead, in your face hardcore with that great early DRI sound but with a skate rock edge to it. Add Mystic style riffage with great shouted vocals and you will have a pretty good idea of what this sounds like. Hardcore the way it should be; fast, angry, with just the right amount of added guitar work to make it interesting. If you liked the COP 7", you will love this. 12 song on the single.
Crucial Cause/Rat Damage- Split 7"
-The second official Flat Black Distribution title. These Crucial Cause tracks are songs left over from the "Try Our Luck" recording session, so anyone who has heard that record knows what to expect here. Great thrashy hardcore with a strong NYHC feel to it. Rat Damage have a more mid tempo approach and are rockin' in that Sick Pleasure kind of way but with gruff, throaty vocals that bring bands from the Midwest to mind. Awesome cover art by Paul Imagine. LIMITED TO 400 HAND NUMBERED COPIES!!!
Timebombs- Kill Music 7”
- Timebombs Second Ep shows us a huge progression from their Society's To Blame/ Doc Brown 7". Their first Ep was reminiscent of Mystic bands but this release sounds a lot like early FU's meets Koro. The raw 80's style recording makes me think of hardcore gems like the Mecht Mensch Acceptance 7" or an early Fartz record. Fast, youthful tunes with heart and a sense of humor.
Imposters- Pool Maintenance 7”
-First official release from this South Bay Band and first title we are officially distributing. Three extremely talented High School kids playing punk that takes cues from all kinds of punk and hardcore. In their sound, I can hear a youthful Orange County vibe of bands like Adolescents and the surfy vibe of Agent Orange. This also brings to mind the Authorities and some RKL. Diverse yet familiar. LIMITED TO 300 COIPES!!!
C.O.P. - Ripperside 7”
-This is the debut release from Riverside's C.O.P. (Citizens On Patrol). Eight songs of skate infused hardcore that brings you back to the days of classic nardcore like Stalag 13 and False Confession. Great riffs backed with solid, blistering drums and snotty yet intelligible vocals. Songs you will be singing after the first time you hear them. This band is a must-see live. There aren't many around today who shove as much energy into their sets as C.O.P. Standout tracks include Ripperside/C.O.P., Hitchhikers and No Secrets. This is what punk rock is all about people. INCLUDES TWO SIDED PULL OUT POSTER WITH BAND PHOTOS AND LYRICS!!
Tippers Gore- Blackout 7”
-Debut six song seven inch from Tippers Gore here. Total 80's style fast and thrasshy HC here from this new Orange County, CA bnad. In the vein of greats like Minor Threat and Negative Approach these dudes bash out 6 fierce rippin tunes on this single. Fans of Skate Korpse, Sex Vid, Koro or even Agent Orange will dig.
Crucial Cause- Try Our Luck 7"
-This is the Bay Area band's first release and although it has that familiar thrashy Bay Area sound of great bands like Warkrime and Deadfall, it also has a strong NYHC influence, which sets it apart from their counterparts. Take Bay Area thrash and mix it with New York bands like Antidote and Youth Of Today, and you will have a pretty good idea of what this sounds like. For fans of all eras of hardcore. INCLUDES TWO SIDED PULL OUT INSERT WITH BAND PHOTOS AND LYRICS!!
Bad Reaction- Plastic World 7"
-Latest EP from this California band after their well-received full-length. These guys play some really diverse HC with a cool, Zero Boys-like bass sound, some Ginn-esque riffage and pissed-off vocals that recall early AFI (a good thing I think!). These guys definitely separate themselves from the pack and sound Southern California as fuck. Great single here. INCLUDES TWO SIDED PULL OUT INSERT WITH BAND PHOTOS AND LYRICS!!
Tippers Gore- S/T LP
-First full length from this Orange County hardcore band. 12 songs here with a few Minor Threat/DC Youth Brigade inspired hardcore tunes and a few that remind me a bit of the Zero Boys. Awesome cover art too. Sound and feel of the band, leans heavily towards early to mid 80’s punk. You know, back when melodic punk was still tough. LP LIMITED TO 1000 COPIES AND INCLUDES TWO SIDED PULL OUT INSERT WITH BAND PHOTOS AND LYRICS!!
